Donic is a traditional German company in the second generation, which has become one of the world's most important manufacturers of wooden blades, rubber sheets, tables, textiles and other table tennis equipment. Donic was originally founded in Cologne, Germany by its eponym Doctor (DO) Georg Nicklas (NIC). When Dr. Nicklas wanted to move to Sweden at the end of the 80s, he sold his company to the Schreiner family. This was the beginning of their success story.

It was through a friendship that Jan-Ove Waldner, one of the most legendary table tennis players of all time, became Donic's world-famous brand ambassador in 1993. Frank Schreiner, who in the meantime had taken over the business of his father Karlheinz, had known JO from his time at the German Club ATSV Saarbrücken. Jan-Ove had always assured Frank that he would join DONIC as soon as he was free.
